Zumbro Ridge Estates originally opened more than 50 years ago and is now a 129-home, resident-owned manufactured home community.
But that transition didn’t happen overnight. We formed Zumbro Ridge Estates, Inc. and started on the path to resident-ownership in 2017. That’s when, with the help of Northcountry Cooperative Foundation and ROC USA, LLC, we purchased and took control of our community in October 2017.
Now, the resident-owned community (ROC) is not only a successful business, but also a thriving neighborhood.
The process of the resident-owned community buying the land beneath our neighborhood brought this community closer together. Not only do we know far more of our neighbors than ever before, but we look out for one another, too. And with no outside landlord to report to, we’re the envy of other nearby manufactured home communities.
Our Member households elect our Board of Directors, which works with a property management firm and also appoints various volunteer committees to help with special projects, celebrations, community improvements and more. The Board submits a budget every year, and the entire Membership votes on it and any changes to the rent before the budget becomes official. We’re running the business that is our community on our terms, by our rules, for the betterment of ourselves and our neighbors.
Zumbro Ridge Estates is a well-established community in Rochester, Minn., for people who enjoy convenient access to the city, and also want to be close to an abundance of outdoor activities. We are located just five miles from downtown Rochester.
Zumbro Ridge Estates is an ideal spot for adventure lovers with Quarry Hill Nature Center and Douglas Trail. Known for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, these beautiful trails are easy to get to from Zumbro Ridge Estates. Our community is safe, pet-friendly, quiet and clean. The area around the man-made Silver Lake is ideal for walking, picnicking and roller blading. It’s a hidden gem in the bustle of the city of Rochester and minutes from our community.
The Mayo Clinic is a 10-minute drive from Zumbro Ridge Estates and has offered world-class health care since 1989. Ranked as one of the top hospitals in the country, it’s right in our backyard. Less than five minutes from a park where trout fishing and walking trails are clean and accessible, we are a family and pet friendly community with an ideal location. Interstates 90 and 35 are nearby and Minneapolis and Milwaukee are less than five hours away. Each June, the city of Rochester hosts Rochesterfest. This annual festival features parades and live music and is held in Soldiers Field, a free memorial open to visitors daily.
